Desktop Lightning is an interesting new free e-mail `replacement`. There have been similar products in the past, but this has a good takeup in the Internet Marketing Community.

Basically, this runs as a small app. in your system tray and will from time to time receive new messages that are broadcast by members. There are checks in place to ensure you’re not deluged with messages.
