(this post is not selling anything – please read)

When I first started with Internet Marketing I was, as many people are, seeking for a way to supplement my income.

After all the promises were that you could run a profitable internet business without any of the pitfalls that a traditional “bricks and mortar” business would entail.

There’s a very low barrier of entry to IM, and perhaps that’s the problem.

It’s all to easy to start out – and get trapped into spending a fortune – only to fail pretty early.

The way I see it, there’s three levels of Internet Marketer:

. Those just starting out, making the mistakes everyone makes, and slowly finding their way.

. Those who are making a nice income but probably aren’t doing it full time as their only source of income. This is where, if I’m honest, I and most others are.

. And those who are the “superstars” of IM… you know, those who’se names you see crop up everywhere, those of the million-dollar launches.

The truth is that last category of people, they’re not superhuman in any way. Anyone can achieve what they’ve achieved, and the information is out there — if you know where to look, and mostly for free.

What you do need is the will to succeed and the guts to go for it!

You do need a modicum of technical knowledge (how to set up a site, research a market, run a mailing list, run an affiliate program, etc). But it’s not that difficult. You do need to be tapped in to what’s current, what works, where the money is. And you do need to willing to spend time solving problems. But again, none of this really difficult.

I’ve been online for a long time, since around 1997 or so. The days of 33k modems, dial up access, basic web sites. Before Google even.

Obviously, the internet has changed – a lot.

In the early days I dabbled with failed MLM programs, safelists, even junk bulk leads at one point, which is practically spamming. I learned from my mistakes.

There’s some main points to keep in mind – namely, you are doing this to make money – but apart from that you can be inventive to work towards your goals.

Here’s what I’ve found that works:

. List building
. Affiliate Programs (whether you own or someone elses)
. Article Writing
. Ebay (not so much these days, but it has it’s place)
. Dimesales (an affiliate program with a twist)
. Adsense and Adwords (though it’s easy to get lost with the former)
. Blogging and other content-based CMS sites

and many other techniques I don’t have the space to go into.

My point is this.

Marketing is not difficult, anyone can do it, and the information and small nudges of encouragement can be found here and in my blog.

You need to pick up some , let’s call it “essential knowledge”, but you can learn as you earn. Some things you need to know include buying a domain name, setting up a website, and running an autoresponder.

It’s ridiculously easy to do most of that. A few clicks and a credit card – and it won’t cost you a fortune.

There is one difficult part, the part that I see is the aim of marketing:

PROMOTION.

Anyone can find something to sell and put up a site selling it. Getting people to find it is another matter!

Some quick methods include buying ads, building your own mailing list, and making sure you go to your market (forums, etc). But promotion and traffic generation is the most important part of your business.

In fact all you need is a strong product, at the right price, that has a big potential market. Easier said than done, I know, but that is the truth that cuts through all the cr*p :)

I’ll be writing more on this in my Blog and in these e-mails, so keep an eye out.

I haven’t tried to sell you anything in this e-mail, and that’s my intention. I don’t want to dilute the message.

Don’t be afraid to experiment, and don’t expect money to just roll in without you doing anything…

To ensure this site and it’s email messages are relevant, informative, and useful to you I’m making a few changes.

Firstly I’ll be writing and providing many more articles and tips, as well as links to useful websites (not just those that offer a commission!).

Secondl: I’ll be cutting back on promoting third party products. I’ll still offer them, but in the context of how to work with them. In other words, going beyond a simple “Buy This” message.

There is also a new advertising policy in place:

i. The old advertising pricing has changed.
ii. I will no longer accept solo-ads, in the old style. Way too many cookie-cutter ads for sites like Stone Evans “Plug In Profit”.
iii. If you have a genuine site/product/opportunity to promote, I will work with you on a review/endorsement based ad.
iv. There are new sponsor opportunities for articles. Your ad will be included in the article, sent via e-mail AND posted on the Blog.

Finally, I will still mention relevant products and sales where appropriate, but it will no longer be in the old “list all the current sales” format emails.

Basically, for NetpreneurNow, CONTENT is now KING :) As it should be.

I’m still here to make money – we all are – but I aim to do this as an aside to the content.

Until next time,

Stuart Reid
