This issue of Netpreneur News is (kind of...) 3/4 Century Old!
A couple of big AdSense titles have been appearing lately so it's worth it in this issue having a quick look at what exactly can be done to improve your AdSense revenue. Google are not as strict as they used to be about AdSense, but still be careful - they can and will close your account (or cut your commissions) if they detect something suspicious.
As I've mentioned before Marketing is a balancing act. On the one hand, as a seller, you want people to buy your products, books, and courses. But as a consumer - a learner - you don't want to `pay over the odds` or buy information you can get free elsewhere. I'll just say this for now: Most of the available AdSense information is available for free. When you buy a course or product promising you `secrets` you're really buying a time-saver, a way to learn the techniques without having to go looking for them (Time vs Money). It's similar for other popular subjects, such as eBay, RSS/Blogs, and Traffic.
Anyway, back to Adsense. Here's the basics:
AdSense provides Ads to your webpages, targeted via the spider-readable text it can find. Usually it performs pretty well. Not all Keywords pay the same, and indeed sometimes Google will display public service ads that are not paid for. Google will pay you up to 30 days after your balance reaches $100 or more.
So, the first thing you need to make sure of is that your site is readable. This is something you should be doing anyway to get better search-engine rankings. Basically target a handful of keywords in the main text and DON'T use Frames, an entirely "flash" based site, or an entirely graphical site.
You can use an existing site to add AdSense too or, as some people do, create a new one just for AdSense ads. If you take this last route it's no good just to display ads and random text. Try to build something that can at least pass as an informative site! Easy methods include using RSS feeds to provide content, an Article directory, and perhaps other income streams such as Amazon or the eBay affiliate program. There are many auto-site generators around that use a combination of templates and this kind of information to build sites on any subject on the fly.
Note: If you have a site that is doing good business think carefully about showing AdSense ads on your main page. It WILL take traffic from your site. AdSense, in my opinion, is best used for information and portal sites and not mini-sites or other sales-letter based pages. You can specify Ads NOT to show (for example, your competitors) so if you have the time you should also take advantage of this feature.
Once you have a site of some kind that Google has spidered and has started to supply relevant ads for there are only a couple of things you can do to improve revenue.
1. Target more profitable Keywords
You can get lists of profitable keywords from many sites. Traditionally big-paying clicks have included sites focused on "Asbestosis" or "Mesothelomia". That's because it's usually lawyers firms that provide legal services for sufferers of these conditions and they get a big payout on the cases, so they are prepared to very large amounts for a lead. It's similar in other industries. Debt Consolidation is another one. You can research profitable Keywords yourself using this method:
2. Get more people to Click the Ads
Here you basically need to position your Google Ads for optimum click-through and increase the traffic to your site. The best way to get clicks is to disguise the ads. That means using the basic `box` ads in Google, with a colour scheme to match your site, and inserted mid-paragraph in the main text of your content. Bar ads look like Banners. Tower ads have the least click-through rate. And Text ads perform better than Graphic ads, even though they may look `prettier` to the untrained eye.
And as for traffic, that's another subject entirely. Any technique to drive hits is viable!
Everything else is out of your hands. By building a whole range of niche-sites with AdSense ads you can have many little income streams crediting hits to your one AdSense account. And with Google now paying directly to your bank account in many countries you don't even need to cash the check.

That's not something I use, but from what I can see you `swap` clicks on your ads to build revenue. I'm not sure Google would like that - but there's no harm in pointing you to the site!

Mapping Out An Online Lead Generation Plan

A certain market is greatly enjoying your service and
products and is waiting for an opportunity to let you know.
Do you have a system set up to let these target visitors
express their loyalty?
Lead generators like search engines and advertising
campaigns are set up to directly pass on visitor information
that can make a difference to your bottom line. Ideally,
lead generation campaigns outside your website sit in sites
similar to your own and pass on your location when a user
requesting information. This increases the odds that these
visitors will have a direct interest in your site content.
Why waste your time advertising with banners and pop-ups in
places that have little to nothing to do with your product
or service? You don't want to waste your time or their time
with campaigns that may bring in lots of visitors but result
in next to nothing to your revenue.
Lead generation is meant to draw in interested visitors to
your site and motivate the visitor to perform a desired
action. Below are more lead generating ways to accomplish
this goal:
- Think original.
Uniqueness does matter. Why attract visitors that have been
to similar sites before yours? You want leads that are
uniquely tailored to match what you offer. Along this
line, don't keep dated material that no longer holds
relevancy to these visitors or other leads.
- Aim for a target.
Leisurely sightseeing traffic makes no difference in your
bottom line. Why attract 20,000 visitors when only 1% (200
visitors) purchase when you can concentrate on attracting
2000 visitors with 20% (400 visitors) purchasing? Capture
the right target visitors from the onset.
- Map out creativity.
Fresh or stale material makes a big difference. Here's some
direct mail campaign advise - toss out or give away old
material and put in new, charismatic material. Also, by
giving away old material to markets that may be interested
in knowing more about you, you'll gather fresh, ripe leads.
- Aim for generosity.
A big red flag to many visitors is seeing a new service or
product that sells for full price from the onset. Wait
until your list of leads build before doing so. In the
meantime, offer some services for free or a subscription
discount. You can also build leads with contests and
sweepstakes. Check out gift limitations for your state
before going ahead.
- Think generous.
Not everyone wants to pay full price for a new product or
service. Offer freebies or discounts on subscriptions until
your leads build. Contests and sweepstakes are another way
to build leads on your own, but check with state laws
regarding gift limitations.
- Map out plans to repeat your requests.
Loyal customers are OK with requests from you for leads.
Considering how leads keep your campaign expenses down,
loyal customers will offer leads if they get something in
return like discounts or low prices.
Most central to your plan is mapping out a plan to reward
loyalty. As you build a reputation for offering pertinent
information that matters to your visitors, your lead
generation efforts will gain momentum. Why work so hard on
thousands of campaigns to draw in visitors when you don't
treat each lead with the respect they deserve? If you don't
reward their loyalty, all your hard work will turn sour and
they'll hurry off elsewhere in search of the recognition
they desire.
