Issue 50. A milestone of sorts.
Or is it? To tell the truth, it doesn't feel like I've written 50
issues of Netpreneur News. I've enjoyed it - and I can't remember
really `working` even though it does take quite a lot of effort to
produce an ezine such as this.
Each issue, week in and week out we've brought you the latest news,
reviews and downloads via your inbox. We've brought you the best
articles from the big names in Internet Marketing as well as provided
some personally written articles you won't find anyone else. The site
has grown with the ezine and the members site has expanded way beyond
it's original goal.
One thing above all has made me stick with this. It's the realization
that anyone CAN make money on the Internet! It's something a lot of
you don't believe, I know. Some of you get jaded because of lack of
success in the wrong program, or using the wrong form of promotion
for that program. You do need to work, but not too much. A great site
that continues this philosophy is the Free Agent Path, run by the
`recently retired` (lol!) Mark Joyner. Think of it as automated
training and encouragement. It piles on the `escape slavery` aspect
quite heavily but at it's core is strong, solid advice and something

We received great feedback regarding our comments last
week about having more Fun. Needless to say, we need to
work at having Fun in order to make Selling more enjoyable.
Another great Tip is to yell "YES" after every negative Phone
Call or Presentation that doesn't result in a Sale. Instead of
dwelling on the negative aspects we can psych ourselves and
stay positive by yelling "YES". Why? Because it's one less sick
and demented person we have to talk to before we make
another Sale. Of course, if you're selling face-to-face, please
don't yell "YES" or someone will throw a net over you and
take you away.
There's a wise proverb that says; "When you're green you
grow and when you're ripe you rot." Unless you are learning
something new each and every day of your life, the odds are
that your Competition will pass you by, sooner than later. I
urge you to constantly Develop your Potential. This might be
learning new communication skills, management techniques,
product knowledge, features and benefits of your
competition, personal growth, expanding your knowledge and
expertise of a favorite hobby or area of interest, etc. Just as
any Company will constantly invest time and money in
Research and Development, you should do the same.
SALES SKILLS from Mr. Fanta$tic
Previously we discussed how and why "Referrals" were one of
the 5 Easiest Sales. Many of you have asked about the other
4, so here's another one. First, please appreciate that the
cost of constantly advertising for and looking for new
Customers can be prohibitive to most Companies.
Also, the time required to constantly prospect and/or cold
call for new Customers is always prohibitive for Sales Pros.
Here is another of the 5 Easiest Sales.
"The Person you just Sold"
Please appreciate that the Client who just made a purchase
is in a Buying Mood so please don't stop Selling. You might be
able to “Up Sell” by selling them a larger quantity. You might
be able to “Cross Sell” by selling an accessory or some
supplies. You might be able to make an “Add On Sale” by
selling an extended Warranty, etc. A good benchmark is that
20 to 50% of Customers that just bought will buy more during
the same Sales Call.
This week you receive a Bonus since these 2 Techniques
work hand-in-hand. First, a great Sales technique to learn
how and why to use is to Isolate Objections. Too many
Salespeople are way to quick to jump in with their favorite
technique or choice of words whenever they hear an
Objection, only to find out that when they've handled that
one, up pops several more. As soon as you hear an
Objection, why not stop and ask; "In addition to that, are
there any other questions you need answered before we
place your Order?" By the way, please notice that I purposely
used the word "questions" rather than "objections". Next you
should Confirm Criteria for the Sale by asking; "In other
words, once you feel better about that point, we can finish
the paperwork, correct?" As long as the Prospect or Client
says that is the only concern they have, all you have to do is
handle it and you have just made the Sale.

Frugal Marketing

You want to market your business but you don't want to spend
a lot of money. You may be just starting out and have
precious little capital or you may have a successful
business but want to spend as little as possible for the
greatest results. Or, you may just be cheap. How can you
create a marketing strategy that results in a steady stream
of new clients on a shoestring budget?
The key is having the KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, SYSTEMS and TOOLS
to create and implement your marketing plan.
KNOWLEDGE
While service professionals and small business owners are
experts in their business, they often don't have the marketing
knowledge they need to grow their businesses. If you aren't
attracting dozens of new prospects each week and converting
at least one of them to client status, you need to learn what
to do to market your business.
Depending on your budget, you can:
1. Visit your local library and read a dozen books on marketing.
2. Spend one or two hundred dollars on a couple of marketing
manuals from the marketing masters on the web.
3. Hire a marketing coach or consultant to help you learn what
to do and how to do it.
4. Pay a marketing expert to do your marketing for you.
SKILLS
Once you have a marketing plan you'll need to develop some
marketing skills, no matter what your role is in your
organization. The three most important skills are:
1. Asking the Right Questions
Open-ended questions are the best way to direct prospects to
engage prospects, direct their thinking and learn what they
want. Do you know:
- What your prospects care about?
- The problems your prospects want to solve?
- What information your prospects want?
Use questions to get the answers. Put together 5-10 questions
to ask your prospects.
2. Listening
Listen carefully to understand, provide a synthesis of their
responses and use a problem-solving approach to provide the
link between symptoms and causes.
3. Writing Compelling Copy
The copy in your marketing materials and the copy you use for
your “elevator speech” will make the difference between attracting or
boring prospects. Demonstrate to prospects, that you understand their
concerns and their business context, and that you are the expert they
need. Start by regularly giving them an idea they can use.
SYSTEMS
Establish systems to support your marketing plan. Setting up the
systems to market your business costs little and make an
unmanageable task a clerical function you or your assistant can do.
You'll need to set a schedule for marketing activities, define
responsibilities and use your computer to automate tasks. The most
important systems to develop and implement are a way to collect leads
and stay in touch with prospects and clients. You'll need a
centralized database and a schedule for staying in touch with
prospects and clients in order to do this.
Automate functions where possible so you can focus your time on
delivering products and services. There is simple and easy to use
software that can help you manage contacts, add prospects to your
database and send out broadcast emails to the people who are
interested in getting your ideas. Once you've put these marketing
systems in place, you can focus on handling the growing number of
inquires you will receive.
TOOLS
The tools you need to market your business will vary depending on
your target market and the products and services you offer. The
basics include:
1. Marketing materials, the finished copy you use on everything
from your business card, to your brochures, or online.
2. Questions, the questions you use when people call about your
services, or when you meet with clients, or to find out what
information they want so you can write the perfect proposal.
3. Communication tools, such as a phone, email and website.
Take a look at your marketing and determine if you have the
Knowledge, Skills, Systems and Tools to attract a steady stream
of new clients. Identify the gaps and fill them. You may need to
invest a few dollars to make many, but with frugal marketing
strategies you can limit marketing expenditures and maximize
profits.

Newbies who are computer literate, web literate, don't believe in
overnight successes, and have a tremendous drive to make it work for

One of the most interesting but amazing challenges is denying
frustration. Frustration can be a result of a great many things...one
of the most frequent reasons newbies get frustrated is they don't
believe running an online business isn't easy. Believing there won't
be lots of work involved or that a newbie can do what the experts do
can make the newbie throw their hands in the air when they get
partially along their journey.
Like frustration, the challenge of not knowing who to believe or
where to turn can make the newbie feel unsure of him/herself. The
seemingly endless products and services and tales of greatness can
make the newbie seem lost with no clear direction of what to do next.
Thee are many challenges for the newbie and the mind set needed to
make it online is one unlike any other.
The newbie's mind set should be built around these concepts:
*Understand that this will take time, no matter what type of success
stories they read online
*Believe in themselves and start the journey with the assumption that
they will see it through to the end
*Understand that this is the only business that someone can make deep
profits even if they have no education and have little money
*Define a clear path from "idea to sale" and realize that flexibility
in that path will be key
*Always look at mistakes positively...mistakes must be viewed as
learning experiences or tools in their toolbox of success
*Understand that they must be "results driven" enough to utilize
other successful people's examples and experiences
*Never give up
*Remember why they started their business in the first place when
things get tough
*Reflect on how they have personally grown as they get further along
*Crave and dissect lots of information
*Be sensible and realize that things are not what they seem
*Be prudent with all expenditures
*Realize that there will be many time when they have to make a hard
decision and that those times demand a well thought out cost benefit
analysis of each possibility
*Give to get
*Be humble and work smart
*Realize we're all in this together, there are people who will help
But most of all, the newbie's mindset must be optimistic and
perseverant. Without optimism and perseverance, the tough times seems
tougher and the journey seems longer. Newbie's should focus on the
end result as well as the path to that end result.
