Hitting The Hit Exchanges
Hits Exchanges are a great source of free traffic. They can work, but there are a number of techniques you should use.
Hits Exchanges operate on the simple principle of `You see mine, I'll see yours`! Usually there are ratios in place which change according to paid membership structures. For example, an exchange might offer a 2:1 ratio. This means you need to view two sites in order to receive one view of your own. This could be changed to a 1:1 if you upgrade.
The most common types of Hit Exchange are AutoSurfers, Click Throughs and Start Pages. Other traffic exchanges include banner exchange, exit exchanges and the new breed of `fly in` ads - but they're outside the scope of this report.
To get the most out of your hits exchanges you need to use leverage. Your goal, in the short term, is to get referrals for each exchange you are a member of. If you can automate this, for example using a web page or an ebook - so much the better. Referrals will really drive your traffic through the roof. There are a few exchanges that allow multiple-level referrals and these can really get your counters spinning!
It's important to know a few facts about Hit Exchanges.
Pages used on Hits Exchanges need to be tailored for just that.
Your page should load quickly and have a bold heading to get to the point. Since some of the screen is taken up with the Exchange itself try and get your main points and your `action` in the top third. Your `action` should be a one-click signup button for getting leads, a normal `Enter your E-Mail` box, plus a `Bookmark Now!` link. With certain AutoSurfers you have as little as 20 Seconds to grab your viewers attention and get them to take action!
You need to run multiple exchanges to maximise returns.
This is not as difficult as it sounds. Using page rotators and software you can easily run 1 or 100 exchanges.
Autosurf type exchanges will return a low percentage of page views compared to the hits you receive.
This type of exchange cycles through pages automatically, so you only need leave your browser window open. They usually leave pages on display for 60, 30 or 20 seconds. Because of the amount of hits you can generate the low view percentage isn't so much of a problem.
Click Thru exchanges offer the best traffic.
It's well worth your time using a few each day. Surfers at these pages have to click links to get credits. Usually a bar is at the top or bottom of the screen. Once a counter reaches 0 (similar to the Auto Hits) you need to click a button or link. This means your page is guaranteed to be viewed.
Start Page Exchanges are second best due to the availabilty of rotating systems.
This exchange type sets your homepage so every time you start your browser you generate a hit. Of course, you don't have to leave the link as your homepage (indeed I'd advise not to). Using certain software you can refresh these pages, in effect creating an auto surf system.
Your traffic is nearly always targetted to other Internet Marketers.
Specifically, other traffic seekers and start page users! You can tailor your page to appeal to these.
Try not to set a link directly if you use multiple exchanges.
Point ALL your exchanges at the same page. Make this page redirect to you current offer or action page. This means you only have to change one page to get all your traffic to a different link. Some exchanges ban redirects, but as long as you don't break their frames you're usually ok. For more information on setting a Redirect read below.
Don't use PopUps or PopUnders or Alerts.
Some exchanges offer these but its best to stay away. Because you are using multiple exchanges to one page you have to cater to the strictest rules. Anything that breaks frames or stops the rotation is a no-no.
Now you know the basics of Hits Exchanges. We will list our top exchanges (most give free credits) as well as give you a copy of our brandable tool and show you how to automate everything.

Before you join these exchanges or the ones further down create a Redirect Page and upload it to your site. There are free redirect services, but most create popups which are no good for the exchanges.
A redirect page is simply this:

Save this line as redirect.html and point the exchanges at it. Replace YourDomain with the full address of the page you want to show.
We'd also recommend creating a `landing page` for use with Hits Exchanges. By all means, use a redirect to point to this first (so you can change it if necessary). Your landing page should contain a strong heading, a one-click subscribe button, an email-entry subscribe form and a `bookmark now` button. All this should be in the top 1/3 of your page. It should also load quickly. You can include some banner exchanges and ad-exchanges on this page since it will generate credits on these secondary services. We recommend using Thank You Ads (below) and the Traffic Swarm (also below) `ad box` on this page at the end. You can also include the `List Inferno` subscriber box if you're building your own opt-in list. Your credits will fly up on these sites! Good banner exchanges include Vesper Exchange and Banners Go MLM.
Now you can join the Start Exchanges and all those that don't require clicking. Once you've joined these (listed further below) you can start to automate them.
Our favourite method is to put them into a rotator. There are many rotators around the web, free and paid, and you can use a simple script to host one yourself. We recommend Twister. This lets you rotate UNLIMITED URL's for free with only a tiny bar along the top. Twister also comes with a (optional) exit-exchange, further building your hits.
Another trick is to put all your referral URLs into a seperate rotator (sign up twice at Twister with different usernames). You can put the URLs of your AutoSurfers, Start Pages and Click Thrus into this. If you put the address of this rotator as your target URL for the Hits Exchanges (or point your target redirect page at it) the you will be showing your Signup Pages for multiple exchanges across other exchanges. This way, if it is run enough, you'll start generating signups for your pages.
People surfing Start Exchanges are interested in joining other Start Exchanges! This is a powerful technique. The more referrals you get, the more traffic you get, the more referrals you get... Simply switch your target page over to a seperate page whenever you want hits for something!
A final trick is a method that moves your credits around. This is useful because you can, for example, get 10000 free credits on a new and relatively unpopular site and effectively swap them for 10000 credits (but probably less) on a more established and well-surfed site. To do this, simply set the target URL for the popular site to the Surf URL of the unpopular one! Basically you're using one exchange to show impressions from another. Because of ratios you'll usually receive less but if they are better targetted it is worth it.
Once you have your exchanges plugged into rotators you want some way to load these continuously. We have two great tools you can use.
The first, Credit Power, is available from the Members Page of this site. If you're not a member simply enter your email to join (at the top of every page). You can then download this great tool. Credit Power can surf 5 pages at once and use random refresh times to fool them. Put your rotator URL which contains the Surf Pages into all 5 boxes and let it go!
Hint: You may want to run a PopUp Blocker before running *any* exchange. There's one inside the Members Area. The new Google Toolbar also blocks popups pretty effectively.
Another tool we found to be useful is Spyder Hits. This costs $29.95 or you can get it free if you join Commission Spyder (a great Affiliate Marketing Tool). Commission Spyder is free to join! Click Here to signup. There are many other benefits to this site but for now we are interested in the Hits tool. Spyder Hits will refresh an explorer window in a simliar way to Credit Power but only one at a time. Personally, we find Spyder Hits a little more stable. As a bonus the Commission Spyder system also contains a web-based auto rotator for your hits pages.
The final tool you'll want to download is Crazy Browser. Incredibly, this is freeware and they don't even require you to supply your email address. This tool creates a tabbed version of Internet Explorer. It's tailor made for the click-thru (the highest quality) traffic exchanges! Simply load it up, put multiple click-thrus into multiple windows and then get to `work`. Work, in this case, consisting of pressing F3 then clicking the `next` button for the clickthru site. Lastly you'll want to create a simple page that contains the Surf Pages of all your Click Through exchanges. Set this as your Home Page. This way, each day you can just click `Home` in your browser to get to your list. Run a few of these exchanges for a few minutes... it soon builds up!
Believe it or not it can be FUN and INFORMATIVE to use the Click Thrus. You'll see many sites you'll find interesting, many potential new programs, and see how other people are advertising!
